The 8th grade curriculum presents literature about building character through personal struggle. We will learn how characters in historical settings persevered through hardship, and learn about tolerance on many levels: race, religion, appearance, and economic status. This fits in with my classroom community of respecting each other and developing a learning community. This parallels the student's journey as they are asked to work hard, persevere and value the struggle it takes to be a good reader and writer of literature. They are also encouraged to stay positive when things get tough because failure can lead to future success.
Honors 8th Core Novels
Students should carry a novel of their choice in their backpack at all times for independent reading times in all classes.
